DR CHERYL CHOONG

I am passionate about all things skin.

I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery from Monash University, followed by 5 years of surgical training in the fields of neurosurgery, plastics and reconstructive surgery and general surgery through the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Hospital. I relocated to the beautiful Sunshine Coast in 2017 after having completed my training through the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian College or Rural and Remote Medicine in Far North Queensland. I spent 5.5 amazing, and unforgettable years working rural and remote with the Royal Flying Doctors Service in Kowanyama on Cape York, and Greenvale, West of Townsville, as well at Charters Towers Hospital.

I undertook a Masters in Skin Cancer Medicine (UQ) to address the disparity in skin cancer services in rural and regional Queensland, and to provide evidence based diagnostic, and treatment options for skin cancer patients in these areas. The 5 years of surgical training has come to good use, being able to perform 95% of all skin surgeries in-house. I am now a Senior Lecturer for the Masters programme, a certified Fellow of the Skin Cancer Institute as well as a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australia and the International Dermoscopy Society.

Through my work with skin cancer medicine, which spans over a decade, I have developed a keen interest in skin health, mainly acne, rosacea, and skin in BIPOC. I work closely with a dermal chemist to formulate bespoke skin products for patients. I am a firm believer in ageing gracefully, and am most passionate about the results I have achieved with topical treatments.

I am now based on the northern shores of the Sunshine Coast, with my husband, 2 sons and 2 gorgeous dogs. I am trying to learn how to paddle board, so if you ever see me, come say hi!
