What is Laser Resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is a clinically performed procedure that uses focused light energy to remove damaged skin layers and stimulate collagen remodelling. At SunCoast Skin, we use Sciton’s advanced technology to deliver controlled thermal energy, triggering cell turnover and collagen production beneath the surface.

This process can improve skin texture, reduce sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines, and mild scarring. We offer both ablative and fractional laser options, allowing treatments to be tailored to your skin type, specific concerns, and recovery preferences. Common treatment areas include the face, neck, and décolletage.

WHY CHOOSE SUNCOAST SKIN FOR LASER RESURFACING?

The Resurfacing Lasers are performed by our highly trained, and certified Doctors. At SunCoast Skin Coolum, our Doctors hold both a Medical and General Rejuvenation Laser licence and have Radiation Safety certification through Queensland Health. In Queensland, a Medical Laser licence is held only by Doctor, and is a requirement in order to resurface benign pigmented lesions such as moles and age spots (seborrheic keratoses) which General Rejuvenation licence holders are not allowed to do. An initial consultation with our doctor is compulsory before any treatment in order to determine your suitability, diagnose the degree of pigmentation and sun damage, and hence, be able to tailor a bespoke treatment for you.

SCITON LASER TREATMENT OPTIONS

HALO™

The HALO™ Glow is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, combining both ablative (2940nm) and non-ablative (1470nm) wavelengths for superior skin rejuvenation. This advanced dual-wavelength technology targets sun damage, uneven tone, texture, and early signs of aging with remarkable precision and minimal discomfort.

Safe for most skin types—including darker and ethnic skin—the HALO™ delivers consistent, transformative results with less downtime than traditional lasers. Treatments are well tolerated under topical anaesthetic, with a typical recovery time of 5 to 7 days. Sciton’s patented HALO™ system is engineered for comfort, customisation, and optimal glow—restoring healthy, radiant skin with every treatment.

PROFRACTIONAL Laser

The ProFractional™ Laser is a powerful deep resurfacing treatment designed for significant skin rejuvenation. Ideal for very sun-damaged skin, deep wrinkles, and scarring (including acne or surgical scars), it delivers high-energy pulses to precisely resurface targeted areas while preserving surrounding tissue to support faster healing.

By penetrating deeply into the dermis, the ProFractional™ stimulates robust collagen production, resulting in smoother, firmer, and healthier-looking skin over time. This treatment is fully customisable, and your doctor will determine the appropriate depth and settings based on your skin condition and desired outcomes.

The procedure can be performed under a strong topical anaesthetic or, for more intensive resurfacing, with a local nerve block—this will be discussed during your consultation. Downtime typically ranges from 10 to 14 days, depending on the treatment area and intensity. The recovery process may involve redness, swelling, and peeling, and follow-up visits to the clinic are required to monitor healing and optimise results.

ProFractional™ is best suited to patients who are prepared for a more intensive treatment and are seeking dramatic improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness.

Nano Laser Peel

Often called the “Weekend Laser”—is a light, superficial resurfacing treatment designed to refresh and brighten the skin with minimal downtime. Ideal for those preparing for a special event or simply seeking a subtle rejuvenation, this treatment gently removes the outermost layer of dull, damaged skin to reveal a smoother, more radiant complexion.

Most patients experience mild redness, similar to a light sunburn, along with some dryness or flaking for 1–3 days following treatment. There is no need for anaesthetic, and the procedure is generally very well tolerated. It’s an excellent option for patients with busy lifestyles who can only afford minimal recovery time.

We typically recommend a course of 3 treatments spaced a few weeks apart for optimal, long-lasting results. If you’re planning a wedding, party, or photo shoot, we advise scheduling your treatment at least two weeks before the event to allow your skin to fully heal and glow.

Micro Laser Peel

This is a medium-to-deep, fully ablative treatment designed to rejuvenate moderately to severely sun-damaged skin. It effectively targets rough texture, dryness, superficial pigmentation, and fine lines by precisely removing the outer layers of the skin, encouraging fresh, healthy skin to emerge.

This treatment is ideal for patients looking to restore skin luminosity, smoothness, and overall tone. It’s especially beneficial for those experiencing early signs of aging or environmental skin damage. This treatment can be customised in depth depending on your skin needs and desired downtime, making it a versatile option within our suite of resurfacing treatments.

For enhanced results, it is often combined with the ProFractional, providing both surface renewal and deep collagen stimulation—an excellent option for those seeking a more intensive rejuvenation outcome.

The procedure is performed under a topical anaesthetic and is generally well tolerated. Recovery typically takes 7 to 14 days, depending on the intensity of the treatment. During this time, patients can expect redness, peeling, and a gradual improvement in skin texture and clarity as healing progresses.

A consultation with our doctor is required to determine if this is the right choice for your skin type, goals, and lifestyle.

FAQS

Laser resurfacing is a medical-grade skin treatment that uses focused light energy to precisely target and remove damaged layers of the skin. At SunCoast Skin on the Sunshine Coast, we offer resurfacing using advanced Sciton technology, which delivers controlled thermal injury to stimulate collagen remodelling and accelerate skin cell turnover. This process helps improve skin texture, reduce visible sun damage, pigmentation irregularities, fine lines, and scarring. Both ablative and fractional laser options are available, allowing for tailored treatment plans based on skin type, depth of concern, and desired downtime. Laser resurfacing is commonly used on the face, neck, and décolletage, and is performed in a clinical setting under appropriate supervision.

Most patients tolerate the treatment well. A topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand, and in some cases, nerve blocks may be used for added comfort. Post-treatment, a sensation of warmth or mild discomfort may persist for a few hours.

Laser resurfacing, is highly effective in removing mild to moderate wrinkles. The Profractional is suited to moderately deep wrinkles around the eyes and the mouth areas.

The laser penetrates down to the layer of the skin that makes collagen and encourages regeneration, while also treating surface tone and texture, which may result in a more toned appearance over time.

Individual results can vary from person to person, and may depend on factors such as how you look after your skin post-treatment, as well as sun exposure. As we age, skin continues to loose collagen, so after care and maintenance is extremely important. Using skin actives as part of your post-treatment routine may help support the longevity of your results. Our team of doctors and therapist will curate a bespoke suite of skin care actives for you.

Recovery can take 7 to 14 days depending on the depth and the areas treated. The areas treated will go red, and flaky, and subsequently swell for 1-2 days after. The skin will eventually form fine brown scabs which can persist for 7 days or more. It is imperative that strict aftercare is followed during the recovery phase to prevent undesirable side effects such as hyper, or hypopigmentation and scarring. NEVER pick at the scabs! Always wear sunscreen when you’re outside. You MUST stay out of the sun for at least 7 days or otherwise advised after the treatment.

Your doctor will provide detailed aftercare instructions tailored to your specific treatment.

The number of sessions required depends on individual skin concerns and treatment goals. Some patients may see improvements after a single session, while others might benefit from a series of treatments. We recommend a yearly treatment with the HALO. Nano Lasers can be done any time of the year as it is the mildest resurfacing laser we have. We recommend 1 to 2 targeted sessions of the Profractional Laser around the eyes/mouth with further treatments to be guided by our doctors. The Micro Laser is recommended once every 1-2 years. A personalised plan will be developed during your consultation.
